Does Age Matter?

Dental Implants – Does Age Matter?

Many people who have lost a considerable amount of teeth want to take advantage of dental implants nowadays. One of the questions we receive frequently is if age can play a role in your eligibility for dental implants and the All-On-4 treatment. Even though there are no real age restrictions on the treatment, there are some medical criteria that need to be adhered to. Let us take a closer look at the relation between age and the All-On-4 dental implant procedure.

Are All-On-4 Dental Implants Possible for Patients Under the Age of Eighteen?

All-On-4 dental implant, or any dental implants for that matter, are not suitable for patients under the age of eighteen. The teeth of a child are still developing, so the option for dental implants and the All-On-4 dental implants are only available for adults.

There are some rare instances where dental implants could be applicable for young adolescents, since the loss of a tooth can occur because of an accident. In most countries, boys must have a minimum age of 17 and girls a minimum age of 14.

Depending on the growing stage of the jaw, the oral surgeon may choose to allow the patient in question a dental implant. However, cases of patients under the age of eighteen are extremely rare and not every dental facility will treat a patient under age.

Why Is There a Different Minimum Age for Girls and Boys?

Girls and boys tend to mature in a different way and over a different timespan, this is why girls are able to benefit from dental implants a lot sooner than most boys. That being said, every person is different, so there are girls who will have to wait a couple of years before they can be considered for a dental implant procedure.

Is There an Age Limit for Elderly Patients?

As we mentioned briefly earlier, there is no real age limit for patients who want to take advantage of dental implants. However, the patient must be in good health in order to have the procedure done. Before a patient can benefit from a dental implant procedure, their general health and dental health will need to be evaluated.

How Do I Know If I Am a Good Candidate for the Procedure?
