Dental Implant Options

What options are available for All-on-4 dental implants?

Here at Malo Dental Sydney, we use all the best practices outlined in Dr. Paulo Malo’s All-on-4 treatment protocol, allowing us to provide all our clients with industry leading success rates. We don’t cut corners and use only the best possible materials and equipment available in the market today.

Given that All-on-4 dental implants are designed to be full arch replacements, patients have the option to have both upper and lower arches done, or just get replacement teeth for one of their arches. With individual implants or partial bridges, dentists and patients have the option of choosing which teeth to replace with prosthetics. With All-on-4 implants and other implant supported bridges, the entire row of teeth in the upper and/or lower jaws are extracted and replaced with a new set of prosthetic teeth that look, feel and function perfectly.

The dental implants used can be made from either titanium or zirconia, which are both extremely durable and non-toxic. Both of these are also considered biocompatible materials – meaning they are both readily accepted by the human body and integrate well into the jawbones and gums. The dental bridge can be made out of either ceramic or acrylic. Ceramic bridges are more expensive but are much stronger and more durable than acrylic prosthetics. Ceramics are also considered better looking and can be customised to each patient’s requirements.

Are there different types of All-on-4 procedures?

Most All-on-4 treatments offered by different dental clinics follow the same basic concept. Instead of using six to eight implants per arch to support the full dental bridge, the All-on-4 treatment concept makes use of only four implants yet offers the same stability, durability and aesthetics as conventional implants. In some cases where there is too much bone loss in the upper jaw, longer zygomatic implants are used to attach the implants to the cheek bones instead of just underneath the jaw line.

What sets one clinic apart from another is the expertise and amount of experience that their resident dentists, oral surgeons and periodontists have when it comes to performing All-on-4 treatments. Compared to other clinics that offer All-on-4 dental implants, all of Malo Dental Sydney’s resident dentists and oral surgeons specialise in All-on-4 implant surgeries.

We use advanced technologies like 3D CT scans to make precise measurements of your mouth and underlying jaw bone so our surgeons can accurately plan the procedure before making the first incision. Malo Dental Sydney also uses advanced CAD/CAM technology to model your dental bridge, ensuring an exact fit and a perfect looking smile that you can enjoy for the rest of your lifetime. We also use titanium implants made by Nobel Biocare, which is the same company that Dr. Paulo Malo collaborated with to develop the All-on-4 treatment in the late 1990s. Given our very high standards, all our patients can expect excellent and unparalleled performance from their All-on-4 implants.

What happens after the All-on-4 procedure?

Once the All-on-4 implants have been surgically placed in your jawbone and gums, you will be fitted with a temporary bridge so that you can immediately enjoy the benefits of the procedure as soon as they walk out of the clinic. The temporary bridge is designed to look and perform just as well as the permanent bridge and is used to give the dental implants time to heal properly.

Patients will typically feel no pain after the procedure since the anaesthetic will take some time to wear off. After a few days, some minor swelling and bleeding can be expected, but no special medications or post-op treatments are required. Once the dental implants have fully healed, the permanent replacement teeth will be attached. Compared to more affordable options like dentures, your new set of permanent teeth will never fall out and don’t require any special care or maintenance aside from regular brushing and cleaning.
